RSD 2018: Some of Our Favorite Exclusives

Ever since its inauguration in 2007, the annual Record Store Day has become a much-awaited event held to celebrate record stores worldwide. Each year, titles from different bands and artists are pressed solely for the occasion, distributed in limited quantities to select outlets.

For this year’s edition, here are some of the titles we picked out from our limited list of RSD2018 Exclusives that are now available in-stores.

Chet Faker – Thinking in Textures

The award-winning debut release from downtempo musician Nick Murphy, pressed on a limited run of smoke-swirled clear vinyl.

Daughter – Music from Before the Storm

If you love the Life is Strange games as much as we do, then you definitely need a copy of this. It’ll be the only limited edition physical release of the album.

The Notorious B.I.G. – Juicy

Back on vinyl since its 1994 release, “Juicy” is the American rapper’s critically acclaimed single from his debut album, “Ready to Die.” This one’s pressed on clear/black marble swirl vinyl.

The Cure – Mixed Up

Originally released in 1990 and reflecting the remix culture of the time, this one’s an exclusive 2LP picture disc set from the post-punk band. Includes alternate versions of hits like “Close to Me” and “Pictures of You.” (We’ll also have their other RSD release, “Torn Down”—the 2018 sequel to this record.)

Phoenix – Monologue

A never-before-released track from their Ti Amo sessions, pressed on red 7” heart-shaped vinyl.

David Bowie – Let’s Dance (Full Length Demo)

First released as an edited version unearthed earlier this year by Parlophone, this 12” single features the debut of its full-length version, clocking in at 7 minutes and 34 seconds long. (We’ll also carry another RSD album of his—the rare “Bowie Now” compilation.)

Led Zeppelin – Friends / Rock and Roll

The band’s first Record Store Day exclusive, featuring unreleased mixes of two songs. Pressed on yellow vinyl.

Fleet Foxes – Crack-Up (Choral Version) / In the Morning (Live in Switzerland)

As if the beautiful record alone wasn’t enough, the indie folk band went on to record a different version of their title track, “Crack-Up,” this time adding a 24-piece choir to the mix. The B-side features a live recording of Barry Gibb’s “In the Morning.”

Descendents – Who We Are

Released by Epitaph, this 7” from the punk OGs features their new single along with two previously unreleased tracks.

Johnny Cash – I Love You Because / You’re the Nearest Thing to Heaven

A limited 7” release pressed on red vinyl, featuring two famous songs from the folk rock musician.

Taylor Swift – Fearless (Platinum Edition)

Individually numbered RSD edition on gold vinyl. This is the deluxe edition of the pop musician’s second release. (We’ll also have copies of her self-titled record on turquoise vinyl.)

Sun Ra – Standards

Experience pianist Sun Ra’s unorthodox jazz with this first-ever pressing of “Standards” on psychedelic-colored vinyl. Known as having one of the largest discographies in music history, this is a good place to start.

John Williams – Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Music from the Last Jedi pressed on a limited run of super cute Porg-shaped vinyl.

Snow Patrol – Don’t Give In / Life on Earth

In anticipation of their new record after almost a decade, this release celebrates not only Record Store Day, but Earth Day as well—it’s pressed with 100% recycled material.

Various Artists – Twin Peaks (Music from the Limited Event Series)

The double LP soundtrack to the revival series of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. Includes songs from the likes of Nine Inch Nails and the Platters.

To check out these and the rest, drop by one of our stores. Act fast before they’re gone.
