Up and Coming, Part 3—The Drums, Hatchie, Moon Mask, Solange, American Football

And now, for even more upcoming albums.

The Drums – Brutalism (April 5, 2019)

Two years since the last record, the Drums is back with Brutalism, and it’s sounding promising. The first single “Body Chemistry” is a catchy post-punk song about depression and asking if that sinking feeling is actually just built into one’s DNA. We can’t wait to hear what the rest of the album sounds like.

Hatchie (TBA)

We’re all ears for Hatchie. After last year’s excellent dream pop-filled Sugar & Spice, the 25-year-old musician is brewing something fresh—their debut full length! This one’s for fans of Snail Mail, Alvvays, and Wildhoney.

Moon Mask – relapse (February 14, 2019)

Manila’s Moon Mask is set to release the follow-up to 2016’s ethereal irreversible this Valentine’s. To be released on LA label Zoom Lens, we have so far the irresistibly danceable “boulevard” and its complementary music video. According to producer/vocalist Zeon Gomez, it’ll be the most pop-sounding song on the EP. Everything from the artist never fails to impress us, so we’re confident the new record will be another one to remember.

Solange (TBA)

Beyoncé’s talented younger sibling is set to put out a new album soon. It was initially slated for last year, but because that didn’t push through, we’re expecting an announcement sometime this year. 2016’s A Seat at the Table was an instant neo soul classic, akin to music from the likes of Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. We think the follow-up will be just as stunning.

American Football – American Football (March 22, 2019)

The legendary band is at it again. Just when we thought the first full-length would be their last, a comeback surprised us in 2016. Now, we’re getting even more emo math rock goodness with an upcoming third, and again eponymous, album. The songs “Silhouettes” and “Uncomfortably Numb” see the band stepping out of their comfort zones—that might be represented by the album art which, for the first time, doesn’t feature their trademark house.
